Prepare Participants for Sport Competition


This course is designed for individuals working or volunteering in community-based coaching roles within the Australian sports industry. This includes roles in sport clubs and organisations.

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Assist participants in preparing for sport competitions.

  • Plan competition strategies to meet performance objectives.

  • Provide pre-competition information on sport-specific anti-doping, nutrition, psychological preparation, and physical warm-up.

  • Access support staff and resources for specialist advice to enhance sport-specific performance.

  • Reflect on practice to identify areas for improvement.

This course suits those seeking to enhance their skills in preparing athletes for competition, including coaches, trainers, and sport administrators.

Upon successful completion of this unit, students can further their qualifications by pursuing the SISSS00118 - Sports Trainer Level 1 Skill Set.
This can be achieved by completing additional units, including HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid and SISSSPT001 - Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies.

The course is delivered 100% online

+ Entry Requirements

Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.

The following additional requirements will apply:

• Students must upload one (1) video of themselves providing feedback and information to a pre-selected athlete.

• Equipment requirement: Not applicable

•LLN requirements: Students must be able to read and interpret competition information, communicate effectively with athletes, and understand numerical data related to sport performance. They should also be able to solve problems and make decisions within the scope of their role in preparing participants for competition.

+ Course Duration

  • Self-Paced - It is expected students may complete the course within 4 hours (depending on experience levels) This can be completed over a number of sessions. Your course progress will be saved.

  • Students are expected to complete all learning and assessment activities within six (6) months of enrolment. Failure to complete all requirements may result in your enrolment being disabled/cancelled.

+ Assessment Requirements

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the Assessment Activities section.

+ Certificate Renewal Requirements

No industry recommended renewal is identified on the certificate, employers are recommended to consult with stakeholders to identify appropriate training periods.

All learning activities are contained in the online course and may be presented in a variety formats. This may include, but is also not limited to: video presentations, slide presentations, online learner manuals, fact sheets and/or other downloadable documents.

+ Assessment Activities

Performance tasks & scenarios

• Complete one (1) simulated scenarios

• Students are required to upload one (1) video of themselves providing feedback to a pre-selected athlete

Theory assessment: Assessment consists of multiple choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
