Course in verifying the correct use of adrenaline autoinjector devices


This course has been designed for individuals who are required to verify that an individual who has successfully completed the online modules of the ASCIA Anaphylaxis eTraining for Victorian Schools, can use the adrenaline autoinjector devices correctly.

On completion of this course, successful participants will not have the skills and knowledge to train others to be a verifier or to train others to correctly use adrenaline autoinjector devices.

The role of the verifier is limited to observing others who have successfully completed the ASCIA Anaphylaxis eTraining for Victorian Schools and verifying that these graduates can correctly use all of the adrenaline autoinjector devices currently available in Australia, as identified in the ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training.

Candidates for this course will be employees of Victorian schools who have completed the ASCIA Anaphylaxis eTraining for Victorian Schools, demonstrated the correct use of adrenaline autoinjector devices and have been nominated to become verifiers of other school staff.

Important information prior to enrolment

+ Course Delivery

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO or Third party facility.

+ Entry Requirements

  • Entrants must:
  • Have successfully completed the online modules of the ASCIA Anaphylaxis eTraining for Victorian Schools and
  • Provide evidence of current competency in the correct use of adrenaline autoinjector devices identified in the ASCIA Anaphylaxis eTraining for Victorian Schools. Evidence of the ability to correctly use adrenaline autoinjector devices may be in the form of:
    • demonstration or
    • sighting academic records of accredited training to confirm competency in the use of adrenaline autoinjector devices

+ Course Duration

  • Face to Face – 2 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Refresher training – 2 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates.

+ Assessment Requirements

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

+ Certificate Renewal Requirements

It is recommended that competence in this course be refreshed every 3 years. In addition, ASCIA Anaphylaxis eTraining for Victorian Schools must be refreshed/re-trained in line with the Victorian Department of Education and Training guidelines.

What happens at the course?

+ Learning Activities

Delivery of course information and learning activities.

+ Assessment Activities

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

  • Practical scenarios:
    • The Student (the person undertaking assessment to become a Verifier) must be observed conducting a scenario where they are assessing a First Aider in their ability to correctly administer an adrenalin autoinjector device.
  • Documentation:
    • A Verification Checklist developed by the Victorian Department of Education for Scenario 1 and Task 1
  • Theory assessment:
    • A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must successfully complete all assessment questions.
