With the Easter camping season upon us it’s a timely reminder that we need to be careful around campfires.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital have teamed up to ensure that residents on the Sunshine Coast and across Queensland remain safe this holiday season.

The Director of Burns and Trauma at the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital said the number of young burns victims had increased in recent years because they chose to play in the wrong pile of sand.

This has been caused by families covering camp fires with sand and new arrivals to the campsite not knowing that the night before a campfire was burning on the ground.

We hope you don’t have to use it but here is some information regarding the first aid treatment for burns…

First aid treatment for a burn is to place the injured area under cool running water for 20 minutes and seek medical treatment immediately by phoning 000. Make sure you remove any jewellery or clothing from the infected area unless it is stuck to the patient.

Please remember to put out all fires using water and remember. If you would like to book into one of Sunshine Coast First Aid courses, please book online or phone 07 5438 8888 to find out more.
